Location and Soil
A hillside vineyard situated to the South of Bergerac (altitude 170m).
Clay, limestone and gravel over a subsoil of Agen sandstone and Monbazillac limestone.

Grape Variety
A blend of 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% of Malbec and 65% of Merlot.

Winemaking Process

Selection of the oldest vines by control of the phenolic ripeness using the " Professor Glories method ". Hand picking and sorting of the grapes. De-stemming and crushing. Maceration 24 days in the vat with pumping over the cap depending on the maturity of the tannins. Transfer into French tightgrain oak barrels for the malolactic fermentation. Ageing for 18 months with racking every 3 months. Fining with egg whites. Bottling after light filtration.

Preservation
“Vin de garde” (a wine that will benefit by being kept)

Tasting
To be drunk at 17 to 18°C with roast meat, beef, duck or goose preserves, local cheeses, etc...

Features
A lovely deep ruby colour with flashes of violet . An intense nose with a combination of soft fruit , flowers and vanilla. On the palate, the wine has a distinct texture, with powerful but round tannins. A strong backbone with plenty of fullness. A really long finish with a superb flourish of fruit.
This is an elegant wine, ideal for laying down, of considerable distinction, made for the pleasure of wine-lovers.

The Latin name expresses the notion of foundation, but also of historic continuity: “Hortus deorum quo ortus est”, produced from the Garden of the Gods (garden of the gods, the Celtic translation of Belin-Gaard). The “Ortus” from Château Belingard symbolises to some extent our dream of blending power and femininity.
